Freshkills Park seeks two Fall 2010 interns

The Freshkills Park team is seeking graduate students or qualified undergraduates to fill two internships for fall semester.

Position Title: Freshkills Park Communications and Special Events Intern

Responsibilities:
* Writing, editing and laying out the Freshkills Park newsletter
* Helping to coordinate and organize logistics for special on-and off-site events at various scales
* Conceptualizing and producing printed materials on constructed and natural features of the park
* Crafting and posting updates to our blog and web sites
* Opportunities to attend team meetings, interagency meetings and planning sessions

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
* Strong experience in writing and graphic design
* Experience or education in marketing and event coordination
* Experience with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign
* Attention to detail
* An ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
* An interest in environmental studies and urban planning
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Position Title: Freshkills Park Green/Planning Research Intern

Responsibilities:
* Conducting research related to the continued planning of sections of the park
* Researching scientific institutional partners and potential sustainability project partners
* Assisting with grant research and writing
* Writing content for various park communications
* Acting as team representative at local talks and events centered around sustainability and planning
* Opportunities to attend team meetings, interagency meetings and planning session

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
* Attention to detail
* An ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
* An interest in urban planning, environmental sustainability, development and/or public affairs
